Downloading the SAS® Private Java Runtime Environment version 7, version 8, version 11, or version update 21 for SAS® 9.3 and SAS® 9.4

Important Note:
SAS provides a version of the required Java Runtime Environment (JRE) along with SAS 9.4 software (known as the SAS Private JRE). SAS partners with Azul to deliver and test Java updates that contain security fixes and improvements for an existing Java version. SAS makes these updates available from the SAS Downloads Site for SAS 9.4 releases under Standard Support on a regular basis.

SAS recommends that you update your SAS Private JRE when update packages are made available by SAS. SAS also recommends that you check for update availability regularly.

Updates to the SAS Private JRE are performed separately from the application of regular security updates and hot fixes. For more information, see Preparing the SAS Software Depot with Security Updates and Hot Fixes.

SAS delivers regular updates of the SAS Private JRE as follows:

In alignment with the SAS 9.4 Java vendor, SAS updates for Java 7 and earlier are no longer available. See the Azul Support lifecycle for existing and planned JDK releases. SAS continues to provide the last Java 7 update, which was released by SAS in August 2022. Download updates for Java 7.

This article describes how to download the SAS Java Runtime Environment (JRE) updates for SAS® 9.4M3 (TS1M3) – SAS 9.4M9. For details about the requirements for using Java 7, Java 8, Java 11, and Java 21, see the SAS Third-Party Software Requirements page, scroll to your version of SAS, and click the associated JRE link.

If you are using SAS 9.4M3 – SAS 9.4M8 on Solaris x64 or Solaris 64-bit, contact SAS Technical Support for the Java update.

B If you are using version 1.7.0_161 of the SAS Private JRE, you might be affected by a rendering issue for a few specific graphic displays. For detailed information, see SAS Note 62260. To address this issue, download and install SAS Private JRE 1.7.0_181. When you update SAS 9.4M0 through SAS® 9.4M3 (TS1M3) for SAS Environment Manager on 1.7.0_161 on HP-UX for Itanium, you must perform the manual update documented in SAS Note 61392.

C SAS reviewed the October 2016 update release (Java 1.7.0_121) and determined that the issues addressed in this update do not impact SAS Server environments. SAS customers should continue to run Java 1.7.0_111 on SAS 9.3 and 9.4 systems.

D SAS reviewed the January 2016 update release (Java 1.7.0_95) and determined that the issues addressed in this update do not impact SAS Server environments.
