Generate the SAS® Planning Add-In logs with SAS® Intelligent Planning

In SAS Planning, you can view the logs for the Microsoft Excel Add-In using the SAS Add-In Message Log window. The SAS Add-In Message Log is useful for troubleshooting unexpected behavior when using the Microsoft Excel Add-In.

To activate the application to display the SAS Add-In Message Log window, complete the following steps:

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications on the client machine.
  2. Navigate to the C:\ProgramFiles\SAS\Viya\SASPlanning directory.
  3. Open the SAS.FM.Common.dll.config file with a standard text editor such as Notepad, WordPad, or TextPad. Then, modify the <add key="DebugLevel" value="X"/> line so that the X is set to the desired logging level. The logging levels are as follows:

0 Error - Only Error messages are displayed in the SAS Planning Add-In log.
1 Warn - Warning and Error messages are written to the log.
2 Info - Information, Warning, and Error messages are written to the log.
3 Debug - All messages are written to the log.

Note: By default, the logging level is set to Info ("DebugLevel" value="2")

To disable the SAS Planning Add-In Message log window and direct the output to a file, make the following changes to your <SAS.FM.Common.dll.config> file:

  1. Set the value of the <add key="ShowMessageLog" value=...> statement to "false"/.
  2. Set the value of the <add key="LogToExternalFile" value=...> statement to "true"/.

Your output is directed to a directory on the client machine similar to the following:

C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp\1\MessageLogFile_xx.txt>

Note that the <MessageLogFile_> filename is incremented (the value of xx increases) each time new log information is written out to a file.

Note: Ensure that you have administrative privileges on the system before changing values in the file. You should not change any other values.
