Using SAS® Studio in SAS® 9.4 in Chromium-based browsers might cause high memory usage, degraded performance, or browser tab suspension


Using SAS Studio in SAS 9.4 in Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, an issue might occur where browser memory usage remains high and does not decrease when the SAS Studio session is idle. Reports of this issue have increased with the latest updates of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Over time, SAS Studio can become slow, unresponsive, or the browser tab can be suspended. 

This issue can result in the following problems:

In some cases, the problem becomes more noticeable after repeated interaction in the SAS Studio interface, but the primary visible impact is that SAS Studio becomes very slow, or the browser tab is suspended.

The Browser Tab Stops Responding

In some scenarios, SAS Studio becomes progressively slow until the browser tab stops responding.

As a result, a browser message can occur, indicating the page is not responding and requires the user to wait or exit the page.
