SAS Business Orchestration Services versions 1.x and 10.1 are designed to run with other SAS products, which have their own SAS License management. As a result, those SAS Business Orchestration Services versions do not have any shutdown handling for expired licenses.

Within your installation, SAS Business Orchestration Services licenses might or might not have been copied to your SAS Business Orchestration Services deployments. However, it is not necessary to update them for license renewals.

If you prefer to keep track of licenses in deployments, complete the following steps:

1. Copy your renewal license file to your $BOSS_CONFIG folder. For example, /opt/sas/viya/config/etc/boss/setinit.txt.
2. Rename the renewal license file to setinit.txt.  

Note: This SAS KB article applies to all versions of SAS Business Orchestration Services prior to SAS^® Business Orchestration Services 10.2. For SAS Business Orchestration Services 10.2 on SAS^® Viya^® 3.5, and for classic SAS Business Orchestration Services (Camel-based) and cloud native SAS Business Orchestration Services (Benthos-based) on the SAS^® Viya^® platform, they now check for valid licenses.
