A warning message about Japanese (Shift-JIS) encoding occurs when you invoke SAS® (English with DBCS) or SAS® (Japanese)

When you invoke SAS® 9.x with a Japanese (Shift-JIS) session encoding, the following warning message might appear in the SAS® log window:

WARNING: The DM font being used is for the Western character set but the required character set is Japanese (Shift-JIS).

To configure SAS® 9.4 so that the warning message does not appear, follow these steps:

  1. Make the SAS Explorer window or SAS log window active.
  2. Select Tools ► Options ► Fonts.
  3. Under Fonts, select an appropriate font (an example is Thorndale Duospace WT TC).
  4. Under Script, select Japanese.
  5. Select OK.
