Role requirement for exporting and importing SAS® Visual Data Builder queries in SAS® Management Console has changed

Overview

Typically, the SAS Administrator (sasadm@saspw) account is used to export and import SAS Visual Data Builder queries in SAS Management Console. However, with the latest hot fix applied to SAS® Visual Analytics 7.5 and 7.51, the requirement for exporting and importing queries has changed.

Note: The change was implemented beginning with Hot Fix F9L012 for SAS Visual Analytics 7.5, and Hot Fix I9T002 for SAS Visual Analytics 7.51.

Specifically, in order to export and import queries, a user must be a member of the Visual Analytics: Data Building role. The user can either be a direct member of that role or a member of a group that is assigned to that role. By default, the Visual Data Builder Administrators group is assigned to that role. So, you can add users to that group in order to meet this new role requirement. For example, to continue to use the sasadm@saspw account to export and import queries, you can make the SAS Administrator user a member of the Visual Data Builder Administrators group.

Note: A custom role cannot be used to meet this requirement.

Behavior if User Is Not in the Visual Analytics: Data Building Role

If you attempt to export a query with a user who is not in the Visual Analytics: Data Building role, the export fails with the following error:

ERROR - Could not retrieve the database information for visual data query "queryName".

If you attempt to import a query with a user who is not in the Visual Analytics: Data Building role, the import fails with the following error:

ERROR - Could not retrieve information for visual data query "". Reason 403

Note: The Visual Analytics: Data Building role is also a requirement in order to log on to SAS Visual Data Builder. That requirement has not changed. For more information about the SAS Visual Analytics roles, see Roles and Capabilities in the SAS® Visual Analytics 7.5: Administration guide.
