FILENAME EMAIL – SMTP Default Timeout Behavior

• The SMTP server has 30 seconds to respond to SAS during the connection process.
• If SAS does not receive a response within this 30‑second window, the following occurs:
  • The email is not sent.
  • One of the following errors is written to the SAS log:

ERROR: Email: The specified address is not available.   

ERROR: Email server did not respond.

ERROR: Email service not available. 

EMAILACKWAIT System Option

Beginning in SAS^® 9.4, a new EMAILACKWAIT SAS system option is available: EMAILACKWAIT System Option.

The EMAILACKWAIT enables you to do the following:

• control the time that SAS waits on the SMTP server acknowledgment
• increase the wait time when SMTP servers are slow to respond or a heavy load on the network occurs
