Setting up SAS® to read data in the Japanese language


This example uses SAS® 9.4 and Windows 7.

  1. If you can read Japanese, install the Japanese edition of SAS. Otherwise, use the English edition with double-byte character set (DBCS). (See SAS Note 18317, "The default SAS® double-byte character set (DBCS) session locale is set to Japanese on SAS®9 already.")
  2. Re-set regional and language settings for your PC: 
    1. Select Start ► Control Panel
    2. Click Region and Language.
    3. In the Region and Language dialog box, click the Administrative tab.
    4. On theAdministrative tab, click the Change system locale button to display the Region and Language Settings dialog box.
    5. From the drop-down list, select your system locale value Japanese(Japan) and click OK.
    6. Restart your computer.
