Disabling the ability to save a copy of a SAS® Visual Analytics report displayed in view mode

Starting with release 8.4, SAS Visual Analytics enables users to save a copy of a report opened in view mode to their My Folder. This feature is enabled by default and is available to any user who has access to the report. Users can save a copy of the report regardless of whether they have access to Edit mode. An administrator can disable this feature by restricting the ability to create reports. Here are the steps:

  1. Log on to SAS® Environment Manager as an administrator.
  2. In the left pane, under Security, select Rules.
  3. In the Rules Filter pane, enter /reports/reports/ in the Object URI box, and click Apply.

    Object URI says /reports/reports/

  4. In the search results on the right, select the following rule:

Principal is set to Authenticated Users, Setting is set to Grant, and Permissions is set to Create, Read

  5. Click the Edit icon on the toolbar: Pencil icon
  6. Delete the Create permission. This removes the ability to create new reports for all authenticated users.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click the New icon on the toolbar: Create icon, which looks like a star in the upper right corner of a document
  9. Create a new rule with the following values to give the Create permission back to specific users and groups:
    • Object URI/reports/reports/
    • Principal typeUser or Group (depending on who you want to give this permission to)
    • Principal: The user or group ID that should have the Create permission.
    • Rule typeGrant
    • PermissionsCreate
    • Description: Provides the ability to create new reports in Visual Analytics
  10. Click Save. You do not need to restart any services.
  11. Repeat Steps 8 through 10 for any additional users or groups that need the ability to create new reports.

After you make this change, the Save a copy option no longer appears in View mode in SAS Visual Analytics for users and groups who do not have the Create permission on /reports/reports/.
