When deploying SAS Retrieval Agent Manager, you might wonder how much storage you should allocate to the application Persistent Volume Claims (PVCs).
Common questions include the following:
SAS Retrieval Agent Manager uses storage for both document processing and embedding models. Storage requirements can vary depending on how the system is used and the amount of content being processed.
Two PVCs are configured in SAS Retrieval Agent Manager:
This PVC stores the documents that need to be processed by RAG. The size is typically based on the licensed SAS Retrieval Agent Manager capacity. For example, if you are licensed for 40 GB of SAS Retrieval Agent Manager, the PVC should be sized to 40 GB. The default value is 20 GB, which corresponds to the lowest licensing tier.
This PVC stores the embedding models used to vectorize documents for RAG. The default size is 40 GB and includes the default models provided with SAS Retrieval Agent Manager, as well as additional space for downloading models from Hugging Face. The required size depends on the number of embedding models that you plan to use and the size of those models.
You can monitor available and used storage through the Resource Consumption tab in the SAS Retrieval Agent Manager dashboard and increase PVC sizes if necessary.
The required storage capacity is not completely static and depends on factors such as the following:
For more information about the Resource Consumption tab, see Using the Dashboard.
Note: The Resource Consumption tab is available in only more recent SAS Retrieval Agent Manager releases, starting with SAS® Retrieval Agent Manager 2026.04 (April 2026).
