SAS® Studio in a SAS® grid environment displays an "HTTP Status 500 - Internal Server Error" message

If you are running SAS Studio in a SAS grid environment,  you might encounter the following error after you sign in within the browser:

HTTP Status 500 - Internal Server Error

The SASStudioMidTier3.X.log in SAS-configuration directory/Lev1/Web/Logs/SASServer2_1/ can also contain a message that is similar to the following:

2020-04-26 09:51:00,881 [tomcat-http--45] ERROR [nl2900303]
com.sas.ep.sascoder.service.auth.AuthenticationProviderWIP - Unable to connect
to workspace.
com.sas.svcs.workspace.client.ConnectionExceptionHolder: The application could
not log on to the server "server-info". The load balancing object spawner timed out.

These error messages occur because SAS Studio is waiting for the grid environment to spawn the SAS® Workspace Server. However, when the grid is full, and all slots are filled, the next job must wait for its turn. After 1 minute of waiting, the object spawner and SAS Studio then display the “HTTP Status 500” error message.
