After physically moving a cube to a new environment and using the Import Wizard in SAS^® Management Console to import the cube's metadata, you might see the following error when you attempt to open the cube in SAS Enterprise Guide.

This error occurs if, during the import process, The physical cube will need to be built after the import process option was selected.

This option, which is selected by default, determines how the Metadata and Metadata and Physical Data properties are set on the Cubes tab in the OLAP Schema Properties dialog box. To access OLAP Schema Properties dialog box, right-click on the OLAP schema name on the Folders tab in SAS^® Management Console, and then select Properties.

In this dialog box, the Cubes tab (Figure 2) lists cubes that are assigned to the current OLAP schema, and contains these items:

• • Metadata: lists the cubes assigned to the current OLAP schema that have metadata definitions but do not physically exist.
  • Metadata and Physical Data: lists the cubes assigned to the current OLAP schema that have metadata definitions and that physically exist.

When The physical cube will need to be built after the import process option is selected during the import process, the cube appears on the Metadata list (Figure 2). No association exists between the imported cube metadata and the physical cube that you manually moved to the new environment. So, in the example in Figure 2, opening Orion Star Cube in SAS Enterprise Guide generates the MDX error.

To resolve this issue without having to rebuild the physical cube in the new environment, complete the following steps.

1. 1. In SAS Management Console or in SAS^® OLAP Cube Studio, right-click on the cube and select Delete. This action deletes the metadata.
   2. If you have not already done so, copy the physical cube from the original environment to the new environment and verify that the physical cube exists in the new environment.
   3. Use the Import Wizard in SAS Management Console to reimport the package containing the cube, making sure to deselect The physical cube will need to be built after the import process option.

       

      Note: To see the option on the Options tab, select the cube as shown in Figure 3.

   4. Continue through the rest of the Import Wizard, updating any necessary paths and input tables.
