Connection properties for certain web applications are not preserved when you update your SAS® 9.4 environment

The Update Content step for an upgrade of the SAS 9.4 middle tier might fail when you updating to the latest releases. This problem might happen in scenarios where you have a load balancer or an existing reverse proxy that is configured according to instructions in the Configure the Middle Tier to Use an Existing Customer Reverse Proxy section in the SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Middle-Tier Administration Guide, Fourth Edition.

To determine if you have this issue:

  1. Leave SAS® Deployment Wizard running.
  2. Log onto SAS® Management Console and select SAS Configuration Manager ► SAS Application Infrastructure. Then, right-click Content Server 9.4 and select Properties to open the properties dialog box.
  3. Inspect the internal and external connection properties for SAS® Content Server and compare them with those for the SAS® 9.4 Logon web application. If both the internal and external connections for SAS Logon are set but only internal connection properties are set for applications like SAS Content Server and SAS® 9.4 Web Infrastructure Platform Client Access, then that might indicate an issue.

For example, SAS Logon might have connection properties similar to the ones shown below:

However SAS Content Server and SAS Web Infrastructure Platform Client Access might have only internal properties such as the following set:

If you notice this issue:

  1. Change the external connection properties for both SAS Content Server and SAS Web Infrastructure Platform Client Access, as shown below, so that they match the external connection properties of SAS Logon.
    • For SAS Content Server: http://external-host-name:port/SASContentServer
    • For SAS Web Infrastructure Platform Client Access: http://external-host-name:port/SASWIPClientAccess
  2. Restart all instances of SAS® Web Application Server and make sure that they start completely without any errors.
  3. Click Retry.
