Gaps occur in system-generated, sequential IDs for internal data object records in SAS® Visual Investigator

In SAS Visual Investigator, you can create a Unique Reference Number (URN) for internal data objects. The URN is a sequential, system-generated ID that is created for every new internal record in SAS Visual Investigator. The following image depicts an internal data object URN on the Settings tab:

Modern versions of SAS Visual Investigator running on the cloud-native SAS Viya platform use distributed, multi-threaded microservices and cached ID block allocation. If an insert rolls back, a microservice restarts, or a node drops a cached sequence block, unused numbers are skipped, causing gaps within the system-generated, sequential IDs. However, no data is lost.

While SAS Visual Investigator guarantees a unique ID, it does not guarantee gapless, sequential numbers.
