This SAS KB article applies to SAS® Add-In 7.1 for Microsoft Office through SAS® Add-In 8 for Microsoft Office, including both versions and minor releases.
If you need to clean up and re-install SAS Add-In 7.1 for Microsoft Office or SAS Add-In 8 for Microsoft Office, complete the following four steps.
1. Uninstall SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.
- Open the Windows Control Panel, which enables you to uninstall a program.
- Look for SAS Add-In 7.1 for Microsoft Office, SAS Add-In 8 for Microsoft Office, or SAS® 9.4.
- If SAS Add-In 7.1 for Microsoft Office or SAS Add-In 8 for Microsoft Office is there, select it to uninstall it.
- If SAS 9.4 is there, select it to uninstall it. However, in the Select SAS Products To Uninstall panel, select Clear All. Then, select only SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.
- Proceed with the uninstallation.
2. Remove leftover folders and files.
- After SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office is uninstalled, some folders and files that relate to the add-in might remain.
- Navigate to the installation location (examples follow; your path depends on where the program is installed):
C:\Program Files\SASHome
C:\Program Files (x86)\SASHome\x86
- If there is a SASAddinforMicrosoftOffice folder in the location, delete it.
3. Clean up the registry. (Warning: SAS is not responsible when you edit the Windows registry.) Always back up your registry before you make any changes. Changes in the registry can render your system unusable and might require that you re-install the operating system. For assistance, see Windows Help, Microsoft documentation, or the Microsoft Windows website.)
After SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office is uninstalled (STEP 2, above), the Windows registry items related to SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office remain.
To manually remove these, complete the following steps: (See the Warning above.)
- Access the Windows registry by running regedit.
- For Windows 10, click the search icon for regedit.
- Select regedit (Run command).
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAS Institute Inc.
- If AddIn for Microsoft Office is there, right-click AddIn for Microsoft Office and select Delete.
- Then, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SAS Institute Inc. if it is present.
- If AddIn for Microsoft Office is there, right-click AddIn for Microsoft Office and select Delete.
VERY IMPORTANT: Leftover registry entries might cause issues with future installations. Therefore, if any code is written for silent uninstallers, these should explicitly include a step to remove these registry keys to ensure a clean uninstallation process.
4. Re-install SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.
- During the re-installation, if an installation panel regarding the mode appears, select the mode that corresponds to the bitness of Microsoft Office. If Microsoft Office is 32-bit, then select the 32-bit mode option. If Microsoft Office is 64-bit, then select the 64-bit mode option.
- If the Languages Selection panel appears, either select Clear All or select the languages that you prefer.
- After the re-installation, open Excel to verify that the SAS menu is present within the program.
- If the SAS menu is not present, complete the following steps:
- Close Excel.
- Navigate to the 7.1 or 8 folder in the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office installation location.
- Double-click SwitcherUtility.exe.
- If the box for Excel is not selected, select Excel, and then select OK.
- Open Excel again and verify that the SAS menu is present.
