Installing SAS® Bridge for Esri might produce "An unexpected error has occurred" message


Installing SAS Bridge for Esri might fail with the following error:

"The following problem was encountered while installing SAS Bridge for Esri: An unexpected error has occurred. For more information please see the log file...

In addition, the installation log contains the following error:

java.io.IOException: Cannot run program ""C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin\ESRIRegAsm.exe"" (in directory "C:\Program Files\SASHome\x86\SASBridgeforEsri\3.7"): CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified.

This issue occurs when ArcGIS Desktop (32-bit) is installed on a Windows 64-bit machine.

To circumvent this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Copy the ESRIRegAsm.exe file from the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS.
  2. Then, paste the file in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files.
