A SIGNON fails to a metadata-configured SAS/CONNECT® spawner using SSL encryption with "ERROR: Cannot start remote process"

A SAS/CONNECT SIGNON commonly fails with the following error:

ERROR:  Cannot Start Remote Process

This error indicates that the Launch command for the SAS/CONNECT server failed to start SAS.

However, if you enable the enhanced logging for the SAS/CONNECT spawner by setting the LOGCONFIGLOC=...../logconfig.trace.xml SAS option, the client SIGNON might also generate the error below. To circumvent this error, apply the associated hot fix.

....  cipher error=SSL Error: Missing subject name

ERROR - Cannot exchange the server's cipher with the server.

This issue occurs if you try to SIGNON to a metadata-defined SAS/CONNECT spawner that is configured to use SSL encryption.
