A message that the data source is not found or not accessible appears in SAS® Visual Analytics even though required permissions are granted


In order to use or view a data source in SAS Visual Analytics, you must have the required permissions as explained in "LASR Tables and Servers" in the SAS Visual Analytics Administration Guide. However, even if you do have the required permissions, you might encounter the following problems if you do not have access to your personal My Folder. 

You see errors that are similar to these, depending on whether you are in SAS® Visual Analytics Viewer or SAS® Visual Analytics Designer.

An unexpected service error was encountered while attempting to fulfill the request.
Cannot find the requested data source [datasource-name]
An error was encountered loading the data source [datasource-name]. Cannot find the requested data source.
The data source used by the object failed to load. 

In addition, importing data might fail with the following error:

The application could not import the data. The requested user folder 'My Folder' already exists for user [username]

Resolution for This Issue

By default, your account should be explicitly granted all permissions to your My Folder, except for WriteMetadata, which is usually an inherited denial. If you encounter this problem and your log contains errors about your My Folder, then ensure the following:

Make any changes as needed. A restart is not needed, but you must log out of SAS Visual Analytics and then back in.
