SAS Workspace Server sessions created for stored processes remain open until you close the SAS® Enterprise Guide® 8 application


When you run a stored process against the SAS Workspace Server with SAS Enterprise Guide 8, after the stored process completes, the SAS Workspace Server session created for the stored process remains open until you close the SAS Enterprise Guide application.

This issue occurs only when you use a SAS Workspace Server to execute the stored process. When you use a stored process server to execute the stored processes, the stored process server instance closes almost immediately. 

This SAS Enterprise Guide 8 issue is a regression. The same behavior does not occur with SAS® Enterprise Guide® 7. In SAS Enterprise Guide 7, the SAS Workspace Server session closes almost immediately after the stored process execution completes, which is the expected behavior. 

If you run multiple stored processes or the same stored process multiple times against a SAS Workspace Server, the open sessions build up, which—in the long term—could cause performance issues.

Workaround

This issue is solved with SAS® Enterprise Guide® 8.6 Update 2. Apply SAS Enterprise Guide 8.6 Update 2 (or later versions) to ensure that the SAS Workspace Server session closes upon completion of the stored process.
