The SAS® Visual Analytics Filter menu might spin indefinitely when you create a Common Filter

When you edit a SAS Visual Analytics report, you can create filters for an object using the Filters pane/menu. In SAS® Viya® 2026.02 and SAS® Viya® 2026.03, if you create a filter and select Common Filter, but the selected data item is not assigned to any role on the target object, the filter user interface can get stuck in a continuous loading state (spinning) and never completes.

Create a new filter.

This issue is a product defect introduced in SAS Viya versions 2026.02 and 2026.03

This issue is fixed in SAS® Viya® version 2026.04.

Workaround

To force the filter window to load in affected releases, update the report as follows:

  1. Add the filter data item to the object as a hidden role.

The example below uses the Origin data item for the filter.
A filter that uses the Origin data item.

  2. Open the filter and switch to Advanced edit. When the Filters window loads, do the following:
    1. Select Advanced edit.
Select "Advanced Edit" in the Filters window
    2. Make a small change to the filter so that you can select the Save button. (That is, the Save button is no longer grayed out.)
    3. Save the filter

The filter is treated as an Advanced filter and retains the Common Filter property. As a result, the UI is no longer suspended.

  3. Optional: Remove the hidden role assignment.

After you successfully save the filter, you can remove the data item from the hidden role if it is no longer needed.
