In a SAS^® 9.4 environment, SAS Visual Analytics might become unresponsive when you do either of the following:

• Open an existing report in Edit mode. The SAS Visual Analytics interface remains stuck with an Opening Report... window, as shown in the following screenshot:
  

• Click New to create a new report. The action does not proceed to the next steps. 

When this issue occurs, the following messages might be displayed in the browser developer tools or in the server log:

Refused to apply style from <URL> because its MIME type ('text/html') is not a supported stylesheet MIME type, and strict MIME checking is enabled.

Cause

This issue occurs when the SAS^® Help Viewer for the Web application is not installed or is not correctly configured in the SAS 9.4 environment.

When this component is missing, SAS^® Visual Analytics Designer is unable to load application themes correctly, which can cause the interface to be suspended when open reports in only Edit mode.

Resolution 

To resolve this issue, ensure that the SAS Help Viewer for Midtier Applications is installed and correctly configured using SAS^® Deployment Wizard by completing the following steps (as a SAS administrator user):

1. Launch SAS Deployment Wizard.
2. Select Perform a Planned Deployment.
3. Specify the full path to a customized deployment plan.
4. When prompted, choose the Deployment Step: Step 1: Server, Middle Tier, and Clients.
5. Wait for the system’s automatic preliminary check to complete in order to verify that the system is ready to receive the components to be installed or updated.
6. Select the Custom Configuration Prompting Level.
7. Insert the configuration directory and select the Lev 1 Configuration Level for Specify Configuration Information.
8. Click SAS Web Application Server Configuration.
9. Then, click SAS Help Viewer for Midtier Applications.

After completing these steps, SAS Visual Analytics should open reports in Edit mode successfully.
