"SSL Initialization failure" occurs when connecting with SAS/ACCESS Interface to Amazon Redshift


If you use SAS/ACCESS Interface to Amazon Redshift in a Windows environment, you might encounter the following error when attempting to use an SSL enabled connection:

ERROR: CLI error trying to establish connection: [SAS][ODBC Redshift Wire Protocol driver]
Unable to dynamically load client DLL [Install Dir]\SASHome\AccessClients\9.4\Redshift\s0ssl27.DLL. :
[SAS][ODBC Redshift Wire Protocol driver]SSL Initialization Failure. ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement.

This problem is the result of a missing DLL from the SAS/SECURE™ package that is required to establish an SSL enabled connection. If this problem occurs, contact SAS Technical Support for assistance in obtaining and applying the required DLL.
