SAS® Data Integration Studio performance is impacted significantly when the content that is being displayed contains Hebrew characters

You can experience significant delays while opening windows or performing tasks like scrolling in windows in the SAS Data Integration Studio client when the content that is being displayed contains Hebrew characters. The SAS Data Integration Studio client is written in Java, and this poor performance is due to issues in the underlying graphical user interface (GUI) components within Java.

The only workaround is to remove all Hebrew characters.

However, you can fix this issue by performing the following steps:

  1. Install the latest update for the SAS® Private Java Runtime Environment (JRE) as outlined in SAS Note 56203, “Downloading the SAS® Private Java Runtime Environment version 7 or version 8 update for SAS® 9.3 and SAS® 9.4.”

  2. Make a backup copy of the distudio.ini file. Note: The distudio.ini file is located in the SAS Data Integration Studio installation directory on the client machine. The default location is SASHOME\SASDataIntegrationStudio\4.7\.

  3. Edit the original distudio.ini file and add the following Java option:

    -Dsun.font.FontDesignMetrics.useHebrewCache=true

    Add this option to a line that begins with JavaArgs_nn=. Note: Change nn to a sequential number that is greater than the highest existing number of arguments already in use in the distudio.ini file.

    Here is an example of how the line might look after you update it with the new option. In this line nn is set as 17 because the line either was a blank line that began with only JavaArgs_17 or was set to follow a line in the file that began with JavaArgs_16:

    JavaArgs_17=-Dsun.font.FontDesignMetrics.useHebrewCache=true
