Supported Storage Types for RAM StorageClass in SAS® Retrieval Agent Manager

Question

Can you back the SAS Retrieval Agent Manager (RAM) StorageClass by a storage type other than NFS, such as block storage? If so, what storage types are supported?

Environment

Answer

SAS Retrieval Agent Manager does not specifically require NFS. The RAM application PVCs require shared storage that can be mounted by multiple pods. Native Kubernetes block storage solutions (such as EBS, Azure Managed Disks, and similar offerings) typically do not provide this capability and, therefore, generally cannot be used directly for the RAM StorageClass.

Block storage remains a best practice for PostgreSQL deployments, particularly when PostgreSQL is deployed externally. However, this is separate from the RAM StorageClass requirements.

RAM requires a StorageClass that provides shared ReadWriteMany (RWX) access, which can be implemented using NFS or another shared files ystem technology supported by the platform.
